Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies (CASAT) currently holds the contract for the CSAP's Western Region Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT). It coordinates academic programs and training regarding substance abuse prevention, including a "Best Practices Database" that allows a user to choose a prevention program to meet specific identified needs.

Environmental Strategies for Prevention
A Guide To Helping the Prevention Professional Work Effectively in the Community
This course is designed to introduce prevention professionals and concerned citizens to the prevention strategies that focus on altering and improving the environment by changing social norms or attitudes, controlling the availability of illicit drugs or alcohol or creating or strengthening enforcement of laws and regulations. ON-LINE COURSE — Foundations of Prevention
This course provides the opportunity to learn the basic core of prevention science through an on-line system, available 24 hours a day. The curriculum is divided into eight units: Prevention and the Public Health Model, Risk and Protective Factors, Prevention Strategies, Individual and Social Change, Health Communication and Social Marketing, Needs and Resource Assessment, Planning for Successful Outcomes, and Resources for Prevention Planning. Students can move through the units at their own pace, leaving and returning to their stopping point, as needed. CEUs are available through the University of Maryland, College Park. This resource is provided by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP).

Search Institute
The Search Institute is an independent nonprofit organization that developed the 40 Developmental Assets framework. Social Development Research Group (SDRG) is a team of nationally recognized researchers. The well-respected "Risk & Protective Factors" framework is the development of decades of research by SDRG team members.
