CDC Best Practices of Youth Violence Prevention: A Community Sourcebook
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) Injury Center 216-page publication, entitled Best Practices of Youth Violence Prevention: A Sourcebook for Community Action (Best Practices). Best Practices was the first of its kind to look at the effectiveness of specific violence prevention practices in four key areas: parents and families; home visiting; social and conflict resolution skills; and mentoring. The programs listed were drawn from real-world experiences of professionals and advocates who have successfully worked to prevent violence among children and adolescents. As a CDC publication, the sourcebook also documents the science behind each best practice and offers a comprehensive directory of resources for more information about programs that have used these practices.

Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA)
The Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) is a non-profit organization that works to strengthen the capacity of community coalitions in their effort to create and maintain safe, healthy and drug-free communities. CADCA works on behalf of over 5,000 community coalitions from across the country. The local coalitions connect businesses, parents, media, law enforcement, schools, faith organizations, health providers, social service agencies, and government in communities to gain a more complete understanding of community problems and to organize and develop plans and programs to coordinate anti-drug efforts. The result is a comprehensive, community-wide approach to substance abuse and its related problems. CADCA supports its members with training and technical assistance, public policy advocacy, media strategies and marketing programs, conferences and special events.
