There are three ways to find a specific indicator, or data field.

Search. To search for an indicator by name, enter a word in the keyword box and click the Search button. All indicators that match the entered word will be returned in a table. Then click on the indicator of your choice to open it.

Indicator Class. Indicator Classes are topical headings, such as “Demography” or “Juvenile delinquency.” Indicators relating to a particular topic are grouped together. Indicators can belong to more than one class, so you may see them listed several times. Clicking on the topical heading will produce a list of related indicators. Then click on the indicator of your choice to open it.

Risk Class. Risk and protective factors derive from the research of Hawkins and Catalano. They include factors across the community, family, school and individual/peer domains such as drug availability, family conflict, academic failure, and favorable attitudes toward a problem behavior. Indicators relating to a particular risk or protective factor are grouped together. Indicators can belong to more than one risk or protective factor class, so you may see them listed several times. Clicking on the risk or protective factor heading will produce a list of related indicators. Then click on the indicator of your choice to open it.
